Jazz musician Amina Claudine Myers signs to Blue Music Group
American jazz pianist, organist, vocalist and composer Amina Claudine Myers has signed to the Blue Music Group label. Augmented Variations, the tenth album in her discography, is the first release on the label.
Myers was born in 1942 in Blackwell, Arkansas. She has proven herself adept in the creative musical arts. She is well known for her works involving voice choirs, voice and instrumental ensembles and performances in several formations. Myers' career in music began in her preteens when she assisted church choirs and later served as choir director. She studied concert music at Philander College in Little Rock, completing her studies with a Bachelor of Arts degree in music education. After moving to Chicago in the 1960s Myers taught in a public school for six years, attended Roosevelt University and became a member of the Association for the Advancement of Creative Musicians in 1966. In Chicago, she first began composing music for voice and in 1975, she conducted her own choir. Myers has resided in New York City since 1976. Her career has become even more multifaceted there. She has moved into the theater scene, written pieces for this medium, acted and composed music for a number of Off-Broadway productions. Myers has additionally recorded and performed with Archie Shepp, Charlie Haden's Liberation Orchestra, James Blood Ulmer, Gene Ammons, Sonny Stitt, Muhal Richard Abrams, Lester Bowie and Bill Laswell. She is currently represented by the Company of Heaven Booking Agency.
